Due to the airing of the documentary, “I think I’m an animal”, it is very likely you will receive increased traffic to your website. It is also very possible that well-known public-facing otherkin resources will face intentional DDoS attacks as well as the possibility of disruption of service to to legit traffic. WH has been DDoS’d before, and we have received threats of attacks within the last few days. Thank you. ~Shiro
Our web-chat client is moving from http://www.howlnet.org:9090 is moving to http://webchat.howlnet.org/
If you currently have a channel on HowlNET that is linked to or embedded on your website, you will need to update the links to reflect this change. This change is being made for both cosmetic reasons, and to allow users whom have port 9090 blocked to connect to HowlNET’s web client.
The new URL can be accessed NOW. We will be shutting down the old url within 7 days, so you have time to make your changes.

I’d like to take the time to apologize for the downtime that occurred around 12:00 AM this morning. This downtime lasted a few hours and effected both Wulf Howl and HowlNET. The downtime was due to an attempted attack against us, which our server host has documented here. This attack knocked us, and other people using the same hosting provider offline for several hours. All services have been restored and are running smoothly. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been contacted to investigate the matter. I hope you all continue to enjoy Wulf Howl! ~Shiro

We had an issue after the server move that was preventing some users from connecting via the HowlNET web client. This issue has been fixed and you can now connect normally. Sorry for the inconvenience. ~Shiro
We have successfully changed hosting providers from Amazon Web Services to Tortoise Labs. Scooby has been shut down and our new server is called Daphne. The new server should be faster and have less hiccups when you are browsing the Wulf Howl and HowlNET sites, and when you’re connected to our IRC server. At this time, for most users, full access to our sites have been restored. It may take up to 48 hours for all users to have full access to Wulf Howl and HowlNET while the DNS change propagates.
Thanks for being members and/or lurkers of Wulf Howl & HowlNET. We hope you continue to enjoy our sites!

We have updated HowlNET. To be more specific, we switched IRCds. We are now running charybdis instead of Inspircd. We also have also given HowlNET’s official site a facelift; you may want to check it out!
With the IRCd update, a few features have been added that security paranoid folks like myself may be interested in:
- SSL w/ Client Certificate Support
- NickServ CertFP login
For those of you who just enjoy chatting, the changes will be minor. Hope everyone loves it!
